Sophomore Alicia Bartick scrolls through the TV guide searching for something or some show that is worth watching; until, finally, she stumbles upon it, her favorite show iCarly.
“[I like it] because it’s slightly less stupid than a cartoon but is still funny and entertaining,” Bartick said. “And my friends tell me I have the same sense of humor of the main character.”
Although, TV shows aren’t the only things that still catch her interest, Disney movies are still a favorite of hers.
“I love Disney movies,” she said. “My favorite older one is Hercules. I like it because it has awesome music and is just fun and up beat.”
Like Bartick, many of us still enjoy watching shows that are meant for children younger than a high school student.
Among the more popular kids shows is Hannah Montana.
“I like it because it’s funny and entertaining,” sophomore Emily Myers said. “It gives me a break from watching the fake reality shows. Not to mention I like her songs.”
Kids shows seem corny and most probably are to us now that we are older, but it’s always refreshing to put on an episode of SpongeBob and get some good laughs in instead of watching a group of catty girls tear down each other.
“When I get home from school I don’t want to watch a show filled with suspense and drama,” Bartick said. “Something more lighthearted and funny is what I need to relax and wind down.”
Perhaps the reason so many students are attracted to these shows is because, though some may not act like it, we are still kids at heart.
“I don’t really think of myself as an adult,” Bartick said. “I know a lot of the shows I watch annoy my parents, but that’s ok. I’m a kid; I’m allowed to think stupid things are funny.”
No matter how old people get we will always love kid shows.
“Of course I watch kids shows,” sophomore Ashley Purdy said. “Rugrats rocks!”
