On a night of breathtaking dancing, it took MC dance group Dream & Believe (D&B) a few magic tricks to stand out above the competition. They took first place in MC Airbands 2009 Saturday night, beating SD Way and Avatar: The Last Airbander (ATLA).

The event was sponsored by Z90.3 with DJs from the station acting as emcees. Several groups from around the county gave exhibition performances in between the dances of the three actual competing groups from MC.

Dream & Believe started their performance with an upbeat song that transitioned into the story of a young audience member who is wowed by a magician. The young boy’s journey into becoming as good with magic as his master reached it’s climax at the end of the performance when the young boy, played by senior JoJo Zapata, appears in the place of the original master magician, senior Nick Shelton when a curtain is pulled up and quickly drawn open. In between, the group danced well enough to sway a panel of judges ranging from former senior class officers to an MC teacher to a dance studio owner.

SD Way, which took second place, centered their show around Scooby-Doo. ATLA’s performance was a parody of the Nickelodeon show Avatar: The Last Airbender. Although their inclusion of the popular song “I’m on a Boat” drew cheers from the audience, they were upstaged by D & B’s magical act.
