Why are teens always broke?

Teens these days are constantly broke and because of their busy schedules, they are often forced to tap into the bank of dad.

“I don’t have a job because my schedule is constantly changing and I’m busy with volleyball, which is year round,” junior Victoria Low said.

Most teens spend a majority of their money on entertainment and the price of entertainment these days doesn’t come cheap.

It costs on average over $10 for a movie ticket and when you add in the price of going to dinner, your night out ends up being around $20, not including the price of gas.

Another popular thing to spend money on is clothes. The cost of clothes eats into every teen’s budget, no matter where you shop.

“I’m not really sure where all my money goes,” Low said. “Most of it goes towards having fun.”

“I also spend a lot on shopping, friends, food, and movies. It all takes a hit on my bank account,” Low said.

Junior Jacquelyn Gentes has the same problem.

“I don’t have time for a job since I have swim year round,” Gentes said. “When I do have cash, I spend it so fast, honestly it just disappears. I definitely don’t save it, most of the time I don’t even remember spending it. I use it to go out with friends, shop, and buy food.”

Most teen’s parents only pay for the things they need. so some teens save their money for a rainy day.

“My parents pay for my necessities and occasionally a ticket to a football game,” freshman Taylor Tso said.

Freshman Kaitlyn Cardenas chooses to save her money.

“When I get large amounts of money I put most of it in my bank account,” Cardenas said.

“I put half of the money I get from birthdays and holidays in the bank,” Tso said.

Many teens are always broke due to their busy schedules, which makes many of them unable to have a job. The price of movie tickets, dinner, and other forms of entertainment also contributes to teens always being broke.

Money problems can be solved by saving money when it’s possible, looking for sales when shopping, and using coupons to pay for meals and movie tickets.
