JV Boys Polo remains undefeated, aspires to defeat competition

The water polo season is underway and the JV team is on pace to keep up with their previous seasons success. The team is undefeated in leagues with a big win against Ramona, and a good win in a scrimmage against Grossmont.

“It definitely feels good to be succeeding so far,” sophomore MJ Nelson said. “We are still dealing with the lack of players, so its going to be tough but hopefully we can keep up the success we have been having.”

To keep up this success, the team is still working hard every day in three hour long practices.

“Since we haven’t had many games yet, the practices are crucial,” junior Connor Gallinetti said. “We still focus a lot on conditioning at the beginning of practice. This usually involves a few long swim sets. Then we get out the balls and work on water polo drills. While it is not fun to work that hard, it is very important because we are going to have to face much tougher competition in the future, so we have to be prepared.”

As the season progresses into full swing, the team still has high hopes for the rest of the season.

“If last year is anything to judge by, we expect our toughest competition to be Canyon Crest,” Nelson said. “We play them next Wednesday so we are practicing our hardest yet to be ready for them.”
