Boys polo works on communication, passing buoyant ball; hopes to soar to great heights with new coach

John Reiss, has finally taken his spot on the MC coaching staff as the new varsity boys water polo coach.

“I think he is solid,” senior captain Evan Heise said. “He knows what he is doing and hopefully he will be able to lead us to a co-league championship.”

Co-captain senior Drew Carlson shared similar feelings toward the new coach.

“I am in love with him!” Carlson said. “He finally helped helped me and gave me some advice. This guy actually taught me moves.”

With a sturdy new coach, the team is hoping to win the rest of their games including their main competitor, Canyon Crest.

With a recent loss to Canyon Crest the team is working on various aspects of their game in order to beat them next time they play them. The Sundevils will be playing them on Nov. 4 at the MC pool.

“We are working on our outside shots and entering the ball to Danny [Ettelson] better,” Heise said.

Carlson, while agreeing with Heise, believes that there are different things that the team must work on.

“I think we need to be more of a team, like working together more,” he said. “Also I think if we make smarter choices we will succeed.”

Going into the game on Wednesday, the team felt confident, playing a team that they have already beaten by a large margin.

“The score was basically really big to really small,” junior Nick Heffner said jokingly.

Furthermore, the team started their last tournament of the season yesterday that continues until Saturday, hoping to have a winning record at the end of the tournament.
