“Remember Ramona.” These words have a very significant meaning to the JV football players.
The team suffered their first loss against Ramona after starting the season 4 and 0. Since that disappointing loss, the JV football team has used that game as their primary motivation, remembering how it felt like coming up short to them.
“It was a big loss, some players were crying,” sophomore Eddie Krukowski said. “Ramona was a wake up call. Our coaches keep reminding us before games ‘Remember how it felt losing to Ramona.’”
The team used that one game to will themselves to win their next two games. Sophomore Marc Barrera credits hard work and Coach Sean Carter to getting the team back into their winning ways.
“We were practicing hard and Coach Carter pressures us to win our next game,” he said.
Even with the one loss, Krukowski says that he thinks their record is still impressive and that the team has a lot to look forward to.
“We are proud to be 6-1 this year, it’s a pretty big deal,” he said. “Our goal right now is to win league.”
What will it take to continue with their most recent success?
“LWG- Linemen win games,” Krukowski said. “If our linemen continue to do well, I think we will succeed.”
On Friday, the JV football has a big game against Oceanside High School, one of the top football programs in the state. Though the odds are against them, Barrera expects the team to go out and compete with 100 percent effort, just like any other game.
“We have a fair chance of winning just as much as we do to lose,” he said. We just [have to] work together as a team,” Barrera said.” [And] always stay focused on our goal, be a positive influence to them.”
