In the first race, both teams sprinted to cheer on their racers. This signified the start of the competitive and intense meet between MC and Westview.
However, both girls and boys MC JV teams beat Westview on May 6. It was a matter of a mere couple of points for the girls team.
“We didn’t find out until the next day if we for sure if the JV girls had beat Westview,” junior Nicole Garcia said. “But we were pretty sure that we did.”
The Westview meet was the last for most teammates on JV, except for a lucky few, including freshman Tessa Lance.
“I went to leagues and I was really surprised I made it because I didn’t know until the day before for both races,” she said. ” I wouldn’t say that I didn’t want to go but I was just really looking forward to being done for the season with racing.”
Not only did the JV team prevail against Westview, but also against a new rival, Del Norte. Both girls and boys teams beat the new school easily on April 29.
“Only the freshman and sophomores went to the Del Norte meet because that made it more fair, but it didn’t really matter–we were going to win anyways,” sophomore Stevan Sanchez said.
All four MC teams went undefeated all season.
