*Gasp.
Did that little freshman just say the unspeakable f-word? Didn’t she learn that’s just not acceptable, especially during school?
Back when our parents were in high school that scenario would appall the people around. Everyone would have starred blankly at her, shaking their heads in shame. But now when we hear someone cursing throughout the halls, using the f-word every other word, we keep on walking, undisturbed.
Profanity has become part of most high school students’ everyday vocabulary. Whether we’re speaking to teachers, friends, and sometimes even our parents, many of us never think twice about our word choice.
The words have become so common that they have multiple meanings. While a curse word may be used to express frustration and anger, the same word is used to describe your best friend.Society has loosened the muffles on teenagers’ mouths. While before the crude language was used by sailors and back-talking rebels, it seems like everyone, even the quiet goody-goody in the back of the classroom, uses it.
Why do people feel the need to use these offensive words constantly? It’s one thing if you’re typing your Junior Paper, and out of nowhere, your computer shuts down and erases everything. If that happens, go ahead: scream your favorite cuss words. On the other hand, if someone is waltzing down the hallway, describing their wonderful spring break and 500 f-words fly out of their mouth, then we’ve got a problem.
High school students need to find a new way to “express” themselves. Unfortunately, profanity is going to be used, whether some of us like it or not, but try to use it in “appropriate” situations, kids.
